Niagara County Sex Offender Residency Law

[On June 17, 2008] the Legislature passed a sex offender buffer zone law. It bars Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders from going within 1,000 feet of any school, park or day care center.

“This law creates safe zones where registered sex offenders cannot loiter,” said co-sponsor Paul B. Wojtaszek, R-North Tonawanda.

They also cannot live or work in those zones, the law says. A violation carries a maximum penalty of three months in jail; a second offense could be worth one year in jail. (Source: Buffalo News).

RSOs who lived or worked in the buffer zones prior to the law's enactment do not have to move or change jobs.
